AKLAN PRESENTS 'PINA FASHIONISTA'
MANILA, OCTOBER 2, 2003 (MALAYA) The province of Aklan celebrates fashion with a touch of ingenuity with the Piņa Fashionista fashion show on October 4, Saturday, at the San Ignacio Ruins in Intramuros, Manila at 8:00 p.m.
Top Filipino designers Mike dela Rosa, Larry Espinosa, Armando Giron, Marden Iglesias, Dennis Lustico, Mel Meer of Bergamo, Efren Ocampo, Frederick Peralta, Barge Ramos, and Rene Salud will feature stunning designs created from piņa fabric, indigenous to Aklan and one of the province's most important products.
Undoubtedly the most famous of Philippine fabrics, the Piņa is a soft, diaphanous fabric of great beauty and value. Woven to such fineness and gossamer beauty since the Spanish times, it remains greatly prized, and is exported to Europe, America and Asia.
At the fashion show, the piņa will be used in various collections from elegant casual and stylish resort wear, to wedding ensembles and formal Barong Filipino.
Cocktails will be served at 6:00 p.m. followed by the fashion show, and will be capped by "Boracay Night," an all-evening dance event mimicking Boracay's vibrant nightlife.
Piņa Fashionista is presented by the office of Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores as part of "Best of the Regions", a celebration of the Philippines' finest organized by the Department of Tourism. The regional fair presents the best of the Philippine islands, from local products, food, fashion and design. The Western Visayas fair highlights the provinces of Negros, Iloilo, Capiz, Antique and Aklan, and will formally open also on October 4, with a parade by the participating provinces, including a 150-member Ati-Atihan contingency from Kalibo.
