AT RUSTAN'S HIGH JEWELRY: THE "KISS OF THE DRAGON"
MANILA, September 3, 2003 (STAR) MULTIPLE CHOICE By Luis Espiritu - The classic elegance and mystery of China has constantly tickled the interest of Westerners, including world-renowned jewelry leader Cartier.
In "Kiss of the Dragon," Cartierís latest collection of high jewelry, contemporary China is a major source of inspiration. The intricate architecture, amazing graphic design and calligraphy, and the objectsí fluid mobility and calming musicality have animated the pieces into mystical perfection.
There are five elements incorporated in the designs Ė jewels inspired by the wind; polychrome jewels of contrasting black and white, and red and green; graphic jewels; jewels of pleasure; and pure jewels with diamonds, gold, jade, onyx and rubies.
These elements are found in the Wind Bells or Fen Ling collection. In ancient China, Fen Ling was used to refresh heavy air just before the monsoon season. The jingling of the bells evokes the sound of running water. From this tradition grew dangling designs of sophisticatedly engineered pendant, brooch, swing earrings, diamond shower earrings and tassel ring.
The Wish Knot collection, meanwhile, is based on the Chinese tradition of silk ribbons to which, it was said, an old man who lived on the moon recorded births and marriages; and through a red line linked the names of the children who will marry upon their coming of age. From this magical tale comes bead and bar choker, pendant and earrings.
The Padlock collection is based on the Chinese tradition of locking happiness while locking out malediction. The padlock has always been known for providing luck, happiness on marriages, and long life. From this enchantment comes bracelet, necklace and wedding bands.
Every piece in the Kiss of the Dragon collection is a brilliant masterpiece extracted from an intriguing heritage that immaculately glistens the soul. The entire collection is nothing short of a lasting legacy that Cartier shares with the rest of the world.
Cartierís Kiss of the Dragon will be exclusively available at Rustanís in October 2003.
