BOOK ON VALENZUELA'S HISTORY UNDER WAY

Valenzuela City, May 21, 2003 -- Valenzuela City Mayor Bobbit L. Carlos has
commissioned Ariel Dim. Borlongan & Associates to publish a new book on the
history of Valenzuela.

The book is tentatively titled: "Valenzuela: Rise from Paddy to City."

Borlongan is a multi-awarded writer known for his translation of the late
Professor Renato Constantino's "The Continuing Past" and "A Past Revisited."

Other writers for the book include Jovita Zarate, a fellow at the Bellagio
Writer's Residence in Bellagio, Italy, under a Rockfeller Grant; Romulo
Baquiran, a creative writing teacher at UP Diliman and also an
award-winning writer.

"Our beloved city was a cradle to several Filipino heroes. And we have
risen from being a humble agricultural municipality to one of the fastest
rising city in Metro Manila today," Carlos said. "Thus, the book aims to
instill pride among Valenzuelans, especially the youth, who may not be
aware of the illustrious background of the city."

The production group, through the intercession of city and barangay
officials, will gather local history from the city's 32 barangays.
Published and archival materials will be checked out and judiciously used
to present a holistic historical view of the city.

The book will be launched on Valenzuela's 6th anniversary as a city next year.
