SOUTH KOREA: PHILIPPINE TEAM WINS SECOND PLACE IN FISHING WORLD CUP

The Philippine Team won second place, besting 64 countries from 5 continents in 32 groups, in the recent 2nd Fishing World Cup organized by the World Sports Fishing Federation (WSFF) in Yeo Su City, South Korea, said RP team captain Mark Rosales, secretary-general of the Sport Fishing Federation of the Philippines and president of Manila Anglers Club
From cumulative scores in the preliminary, semifinal and final team events, the Philippines placed second on 15 points against Kazakhstan's 18 pts for first place and Uruguay's 12 pts for third. This marked the Philippines' best finish in any international fishing competition since 1969.
Three-time PGFF Angler of the Year Alberto Lingayo Sr. of the Land Registration Authority led RP anglers who shone in the individual boat fishing and surf casting events: Alexander Ngo, Victor Ong and Dr. Potentiano Malvar.
Backed by Senator Tito Sotto and Mustad Phils., others in the 20-angler RP team are: Edwin Tecson, Jaime Ma. Flores, Alberto Lingayo Jr, Bella Lingayo, Juliet Ednalino, Wilson Tan, Gonzalo Abejero, Alejandro Alabat, Oliver Cristobal, Jose Severo Bakani Sr., Wilfredo Albarico, Nixon Treyes, Janet Caraga, Lelibeth Tan, Carlota Abejero.
Secretary General Rosales, a veteran of numerous international sportfishing tourneys, led the RP teams to South Korea in 2000 and to Nagasaki, Japan in the 2001 Fishing World Cup where he was elected WSFF international vice president.
