PBA: HOTDOGS SUSTAIN RUN FOR Q'FINALS

MANILA, OCTOBER 23, 2003 (MALAYA) By NOLI CORTEZ - Lenny Cooke whipped up another win for Purefoods, a 90-84 decision over FedEx last night, that kept the Hotdogs in the race for a quarterfinals slot in the Samsung PBA Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena.

Despite falling prey to cramps and missing five minutes of the fourth quarter, the talented Cooke came up with a game-high 39 points and a season-high 28 rebounds.

He had nine straight points during a fiery third quarter uprising that sustained the Hotdogs' comeback from a 41-51 halftime deficit.

The win, coming on the heels of a 94-92 decision over Alaska Friday last week, gave Purefoods a 3-8 record in a tie with FedEx for fourth spot in Group A with only two games left in the eliminations.

"It's a big win for us. We're still alive," gushed Hotdogs coach Ryan Gregorio, whose team trailed by as much as 13 points in the first half.

Terrence Shannon had 15 points for FedEx on top of 14 rebounds and six blocks. This, however, paled in comparison to his 39 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks in FedEx's 121-105 win in their first meeting.

The scores:
