P.5-MILLION PURSE FOR MANILA MARATHON WINNERS

Manila, May 26, 2003 -- More than half a million pesos in prizes will be up 
for grabs with the men's 42K champion bringing home P75,000 and the women's 
titlist distance bagging P50,000 in the inaugural Manila Marathon set on 22.

Ali Atienza, chairman of the organizing Manila Sports Council and project 
director of the Manila Marathon, said trophies, medals and finishers 
certificates will also be given to participants, the numbers of which is 
pegged at no less than 10,000.

There will be no registration fees, Atienza stressed.

"This is our way of opening the race to everyone not only to emphasize on 
its competitive or sports aspect but to encourage as many enthusiasts so 
they would adopt running as part of their physical fitness regimen," he said.

Although no fees will be collected, interested participants are still 
required to fill up registration forms available at the Masco office at the 
Manila City Hall and San Andres Sports Complex in Malate, Manila.

They can also register at the Philippine Amateur Track and Field 
Association office at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

The cash prizes in the men's 42K division will be scaled down to the 10th 
placer, with the second clinching P50,000 and third P25,000. In the women's 
side, the second placer will win P35,000 while the third placer will go 
home with P20,000.
