LANAO REMAINS PALARO SITE

Manila, May 13, 2003 -- Although the Palarong Pambansa has been postponed
indefinitely, it will still be staged in Tubod, Lanao del Norte, the moment
the military declares the area safe.

This was verdict issued by President Arroyo yesterday when she visited
Maigo, site of the fighting between Muslim rebels and the military three
weeks ago.

Lanao del Norte Gov. Imelda Dimaporo, who accompanied the President in her
visit in the company of Rep. Abdullah Dimaporo, relayed this yesterday to
sportswriters based in Manila.

There are indications the Palaro would be staged before June 9, the
scheduled opening of classes. The PSC and the Department of Education are
still trying to resolve several problems regarding the issue.

* Philippine Amateur Cycling Association chairman Ding Cruz yesterday
lauded members of the national cycling team, led by Arnel Quirimit, for
their impressive performance in the just-concluded Air 21 Tour Pilipinas.

Cruz also said the performance of the national cyclists in the event will
weigh heavily in their favor when the members of the national team for this
year's Vietnam SEA Games are selected.

"'Yung magaganda ang naging performance sa Tour, lamang na sa gagawing
pagpili ng national team members for the SEA Games," said Cruz, adding the
PACA will stage other qualifying events this year. (By MARIVIC AWITAN, Malaya)
