PBA: TIGERS BEAT HOTDOGS FOR QUARTERFINALS

Pasig City, May 10, 2003 -- Four Coca-Cola starters got into foul trouble
early but the Tigers held their ground to repulse Purefoods 97-87 last
night and clinch a quarterfinals berth in the Samsung PBA All-Filipino Cup
at the Philsports Arena.

While posting their eighth win in 14 outings, the Tigers pushed the Hotdogs
deeper into the cellar in Group A with their 10th defeat in 15 outings, the
prospects of being eliminated early staring them in the face.

Rudy Hatfield, Poch Juinio, Freddie Abuda and Rafi Reaves all got into foul
trouble in the first half but this did not stop the Tigers breaking loose
at 76-62 in the third.

* Red Bull takes on Alaska today as the league brings the action to the
Calape Sports Complex in Tagbilaran, Bohol.

The Thunder will go into the game still smarting from an 89-95 loss to Sta.
Lucia Realty last Wednesday. They are bidding to repeat their 95-79 win
over the Aces last March 26 at the Makati Coliseum.

Alaska, who will miss Ali Peek due to an injury, is out to bounce back from
an 83-89 loss to Shell last Sunday.

Kerby Raymundo tried to salvage the situation for Purefoods and managed to
trim the deficit to 10 points twice, the last at 74-85. It was all
Coca-Cola from thereon.

"We got into foul trouble early in the first half and we had some problems
with our rotation," said Coca-Cola coach Chot Reyes.
