PBA DRUG PROBLEM: GONZALES TESTS POSITIVE

Manila, May 6, 2003 -- Talk N Text forward Norman Gonzales has also tested positive for a banned substance, becoming the third player to be suspended indefinitely by the PBA. He was also ordered to undergo a six-month rehabiliation.

Gonzales was randomly picked to undergo drug-testing last April 30 when the Phone Pals battled the Alaska Aces at the Makati Coliseum. The result of the test proved positive, according to PBA Media Bureau official Dave Coros yesterday. Coros, however, said doctors refused to identify the substance found in Gonzales' urine.

This latest development has forced commissioner Noli Eala to propose that members of all teams seeing action in the Samsung PBA All-Filipino Cup be tested for drug use. (Malaya)
