ASIAN EXPERT TO SPEAK ON PREVENTING BLINDNESS
MANILA, NOVEMBER 21, 2003 (STAR) Eye doctor, clinical teacher and author Gerard Chuah Chee Leng will speak at Bausch & Lomb’s special symposium on "The Role of Vitamins and Antioxidants in AMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration)" on Nov. 25 as part of the Philippine Association of Ophthalmology’s annual convention at the Edsa Shangri-La ballroom.
Chuah, a vitreo-retina surgeon by specialty, is a member of the faculty of medicine of the National University of Singapore, a visiting professor of the Qingdao Hai Ci Group of Hospitals, and a visiting lecturer of the Shanghai Ren Ji Group of Hospitals.
He is a visiting consultant responsible for the vitreoretinal referral clinic of the Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He heads the Alexandra Hospital Eye Service, is a member of the Medical Board of Alexandra Hospital and a consultant of the Mount Elizabeth Medical Center in Singapore.
Chuah has written two books – A Patient’s Guide to Retinal Diseases and A Patient’s Guide to Cataracts and Cataract Surgery – which were both hailed as excellent and informative reading materials of special help to patients with eye problems.
Chuah, who has also published papers in prestigious medical journals, obtained his Vitreoretinal Fellowship, through the Ophthalmology Fellowship Match, at the Toronto Western Hospital of the University of Toronto in Canada.
He has a Certificate of Specialist Registration from the Singapore Medical Council and from the Specialist Training Authority of the Medical Royal Colleges of the United Kingdom.
He is presently included in the specialist register of the General Medical Council in London, the Hong Kong Medical Council and the Singapore Medical Council.
He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and is also registered with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
