SERENA FINDS PERFECT ROLE
Manila, May 20, 2003 -- Serena Dalrymple always turns emotional whenever she is asked about her mom, the late Wilma Billones Dalrymple. Her mom died three years ago, when Serena was only nine. "Sabi ng doctor, pneumonia raw ang ikinamatay niya," she relates. "Killer nga yata ang sakit na 'yun, since my mom died on the same day we brought her to the hospital." Serena says she and siblings Sarah and Samantha are mga ulilang lubos. She was five years old when their Daddy Robert, an American, died of a heart attack. "Ang iniisip na lamang namin tuwing naaalaala namin ang Mommy is that she is now in good hands. At kasama na niya ang Daddy at mga kamag-anak na namatay," Serena confides. Mothers are again on the spotlight with Star Cinema's "Ang Tanging Ina," their post-Mother's Day offering topbilled by Ai Ai de las Alas. Serena is one of Ai Ai's 12 kids by three different men. "Mabait ho si Tita Ai Ai. Kaya she reminds me of my Mom. May pareho silang ugali. She has this habit of hugging you for no apparent reason. Ganoon din ang mommy ko," Serena relates. Directed by Wenn Deramas, Ai Ai's three husbands in "Ang Tanging Ina" are Edu Manzano, Ton Ton Gutierrez and Jestoni Alarcon. Her "children" are played by Marvin Agustin, Nikki Valdez, Heart Evangelista, Alwyn Uytingco, Jiro Manio, Carlo Aquino, Marc Acueza, Yuki Kodooka, Shaina Magdayao and of course, Serena. "Ang Tanging Ina" is Serena's first movie after a while. "I have to have movies na akma sa edad ko ang role," she said. "At 12, I'm no longer a child. Neither am I a teenager." (Malaya)
