CABANATUAN CITY, January 21, 2004 (STAR) By Eva Visperas And Rene Alviar - Twelve people, two of them children aged two and five, were killed and 58 others were injured in separate road accidents in Quezon and Pangasinan yesterday.

In the first mishap, a Manila-bound bus of the Batangas-Laguna-Tayabas Bus Co. (BLTB) fell into a 30-foot deep ravine while negotiating a zigzag road in Pagbilao, Quezon at about 2:20 a.m.

Police said Romeo Cabanban, the driver of the bus which had come from Rawis, Northern Samar, lost control of the wheel, sending the vehicle plunging into the ravine in Sitio Mapinit, Barangay Silangang Malicboy.

Seven people, including Cabanban, were killed and 35 others were hurt in the mishap. Only two other fatalities were identified as two-year-old Francisco Buban Jr. and five-year-old John Romeo Murillo.

Those injured were rushed to the Jane County Hospital in Pagbilao and the Quezon Memorial Hospital in Lucena City. The remains of the seven fatalities were brought to Funeraria Pagbilao.

Meanwhile, in Aguilar, Pangasinan, two passenger buses belonging to the Philippine Rabbit and Five Star companies, and a kuliglig (farm tractor) figured in a collision along the Romulo Highway in Barangay Bocacleo, killing five people and injuring 23 others.

Police identified the five fatalities as driver Mike Arboleda, 47, conductor Robert Ginez and inspector Mario Agustin, all of the Philippine Rabbit bus; Eric Palisoc, a passenger of the Five Star bus; and Abe Cosme, driver of the kuliglig.

Senior Inspector Roberto Vocal, Aguilar police chief, said the Philippine Rabbit bus with license plate CVU 383 was on its way to Manila from Alaminos City when it smashed into the kuliglig in front of it.

The tractor, which carried five other people bringing their harvest of tomatoes to the market, swerved to the left and collided with the Manila-bound Five Star bus with license plate NXS 472. With Arnell Ozaeta and Cesar Ramirez
