SELF-SERVICE NBI CLEARANCE IN 5 MINUTES?
MANILA, OCTOBER 8, 2003 (MALAYA) The NBI said yesterday it would install ATM-type kiosks in malls all over Metro Manila to process clearance applications for only five minutes.
"It will be a self-service kiosk that will operate like a vendo machine, directly accepting money paid by the NBI clearance applicants, eliminating the need for an NBI cashier, a problem that limited the widespread distribution of the ...manned kiosk," Mega Data Corp., which operates the NBI's computer systems, said in a statement.
The NBI said that the system meets the standards of the US Homeland Security Department.
Mega Data added the applicant's ID card would use new technologies, including facial and fingerprint biometrics for identification.
The service would be initially available in Bacoor, Imus, Las Piņas, Fairview, Calamba, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Quezon City, Bicutan, and Sucat.
It will go nationwide by December 2003.
Mega Data said that the new system would also be installed in 30 malls, including that in Cebu, Davao, San Fernando in Pampanga, Dagupan, Cabanatuan, Tuguegarao, Naga, Bacolod, Iloilo, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, Gen. Santos, Batangas City, and Lucena.
Mega Data is planning to set up a kiosk for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for its benefits programs, using a similar ID card for soldiers.
NBI Director Reynaldo Wycoco said this system would further rid the clearance system of fixers.
