HELENA Z. BENITEZ NAMED TO U.S. HALL OF FAME
Manila, June 27, 2003 (Star) Former senator Helena Z Benitez who marks her 89th birth anniversary today will be inducted into the Democracy Hall of Fame International, USA on July 26 in ceremonies to be held at the National Graduate University at Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C.
Benitez, now chairperson of the Philippine Women’s University is recorded to be the first woman on the world to be given the prestigious award.
At present, the only two recipients of this honor were former president Harry S. Truman and Ronald Reagan.
NGU president Dr. Walter Boek said Benitez was cited for her contributions to education and for her leadership in the Philippine Senate and as ambassador to the UN. He added, "we ensure that you are accorded the tribute that is due you for local, national and international splendid accomplishments."
