MANILA, September 5, 2003  (STAR) Metropolitan Trust and Banking Co. (Metrobank) celebrates its 41st founding anniversary today with former President Corazon Aquino and Presidential Daughter Luli Arroyo as guests of honor.

Mrs. Aquino, together with Sen. Ramon Magsaysay Jr. and Education Secretary Edilberto C. De Jesus, chairman and co-chairman of the final board of judges, and Commission on Higher Education chairman Brother Rolando Dizon, FSC, will confer the awards on this year’s 12 outstanding teachers at the Metrobank Plaza Auditorium at 5 p.m.

At the same time, Metrobank will also present the Livable Communities Award to selected cities in Metro Manila and their respective mayors, to recognize the achievements and developments that have been made to improve their communities.

MMDA chairman Bayani Fernando will confer the award together with Metrobank chairman George S.K. Ty.

Meanwhile, Presidential Daughter Luli Arroyo, director of the Foundation for Information Technology, Education, and Development, will grace the bank’s donation turnover rites at 10:30 a.m.

Metrobank will turn over P10 million in grants to various charitable institutions and civic organizations among which are the Make-A-Wish Foundation Philippines, Childhope Asia Philippines, Philippine Institute for the Deaf, Congressional Spouses Foundation Inc. Marie Eugenie Institute, Child Justice League Inc., and Tabang Mindanaw.

Metrobank begins its 41st anniversary festivities with a Thanksgiving Mass and the annual Service Awards to honor loyal employees who have faithfully served the bank for the past 30, 25, 20 years.

This year, there are eight 30-year service awardees led by senior vice president Dennis G. Suico, managing director of the bank’s subsidiary in Hong Kong, First Metro International Investment Co. On the other hand, the 25-year service awardees are led by senior executive vice president Samuel S. Yap, head of the bank’s MarketingGroup.

Forty-one years ago, Metrobank was established in 1962 in Binondo, Manila by a group of businessmen led by the young entrepreneur George S.K. Ty. It opened its first branch in Divisoria in 1963.

Metrobank now has over 800 domestic and international branches, offices, and subsidiaries. It has branches in key cities all over the world such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Guam, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, Kaoshiung, Taichung, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Pusan, London, and Flushing.
