ONE-STOP-CENTER FOR SEAFARERS IN ORTIGAS

Mandaluyong City, May 15, 2003 (STAR)  Labor and Employment Secretary Patricia A. Sto. Tomas announced that the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has started Monday to conduct a dry-run operation of the Philippine Seafarers One-stop Center (PSOC) in Mandaluyong City.

This one-stop shop, located at the ground floor of the POEA Building at the corner of Epifanio delos Santos and Ortigas Avenues, is a facility designed to provide frontline services, including requisite documentation, to seafarers in connection with their employment overseas.

"After the dry-run, the PSOC will go full-blast in its operations to serve the needs and concerns of Filipino seafarers," Sto. Tomas said.

She added, "We encourage our Filipino seafarers to make use of the facility and avail of its services for them to quickly accomplish their documentation and other needs for their employment abroad."

The establishment of the PSOC is mandated by Administrative Order No. 56, series of 2003, issued by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on January 24, 2003.

Sto. Tomas said the PSOC is in line with the State policy to afford protection to seafarers and their families, promote their interest and safeguard their well-being.
