PBL: JOHN-O BEATS BLU, ENTERS SEMIS

Makati City, May 2, 2003 -- Ranidel de Ocampo scored 12 of his 16 points in
the second half as John-O downed Blu Star 76-63 yesterday in the
Sunkist-PBL 2003 Unity Cup at the Makati Coliseum.

John-O improved its record to 7-3 while the Detergent Kings slipped to 3-6
and bowed out of contention for an automatic semifinals berth.

"We just wanted to wind up our last game on a good note but I'm really
surprised with how Blu played today since we expected them to play tougher
knowing they needed the win more to stay in contention for the last
automatic semis slot," said John-O coach Dong Vergeire.

"For us, this was a good opportunity for the guys off the bench to show up
and gain confidence, especially (Semigue) Eman. I wanted them to feel the
pressure and see if I could have them in our arsenal for the semifinals,"
he added.

Eman scored six points and hauled down seven rebounds in just 10 minutes of
play.

Vergeire's wards romped to a 24-15 start and had a 41-30 advantage at
halftime. They later led as many as 22 points, 60-38, with 1:01 left in the
third period. (Malaya)
