FAMAS BEST ACTRESS ALECK BOVICK SPEAKS UP

Quezon City, April 19, 2003 -- Despite exponentially sprawling intrigues to Aleck Bovick's controversial FAMAS best actress win, the 18-year- old sexy actress remains on the fence with criticisms that brutally implicate her.

"Kanya-kanya lang naman yan ng opinyon," defended this Mandaluyong bred half-Teutonic to the alleged under-the-table transactions with regards to her big FAMAS debut, in a phone interview. She further vindicated herself by saying a reputable award-giving institution such as FAMAS isn't likely to risk tarnishing its name over tempting bucks, even. "Imposible naman yon!"

The relatively new actress nabbed the illustrious and coveted FAMAS trophy last Saturday at the AFP auditorium in utter bafflement of the presenters. She routed big-screen veterans Sharon Cuneta, Claudine Barretto, Ara Mina and acclaimed promising bet Alessandra de Rossi.

There's a hush-hush that her win was questionably anticipated as evidenced by two larger-than life congratulatory banners in her stead. But the actress sought clarification on the issue saying it's but an over-reaction as there are other more prominent streamers and posters waved for other nominees.

The sexy star who now enjoys a comic turnabout in ABC5's "Ispup," said she was blithely surprised when her name was called. "Sobrang nanginginig ako na parang ayaw ko nang tumayo sa upuan sa gulat." Though she's ecstatic on winning the award, she doesn't see it as a defeat for her contenders. "Para rin sa kanila yung award. Wala namang natalo."

Aleck won in her convincing performance in Jun Posadas' masterpiece, "Tampisaw" for Tri-Vision Films. she plays a battered daughter who cracks-up in the end, a challenging role that props FAMAS' judgment. The victory is definitely worth multi-million showbiz offers in the offing as it was Aleck's first ever movie in a lead role. she was introduced in last year's "Kaulayaw" co-starring Barbara Milano.

Aside from promoting Romy Suzara's "Hiram," Aleck finds comfort in her TV comedy stints with seasoned impersonators Willie Nep, Jon Santos, Leo Martinez and Candy Pangilinan in Channel 5. "Masarap silang kasama," volunteered Aleck. (Bulletin)
