SARS: SICK PASSENGER FORCES PAL FLIGHT'S RETURN TO MANILA

Manila, April 25, 2003 -- A Philippine Airlines flight from Manila to Seoul last night returned to Manila because one passenger had symptoms like those of the SARS illness.

The plane headed back to Manila shortly after takeoff -- and the unidentified South Korean man was taken to a medical facility.

The rest of the 145 passengers and eight crew members were been taken to a holding area.

An airport medical official says the pilot decided to return after the man was found to be suffering from chills while running a fever of 104.

After several hours of medical tests, the plane, passengers and crew were allowed to fly out. Doctors said the sick passenger was not positive for SARS.
