2004 ELECTIONS: FLAVIER WILL GIVE WAY TO MAGSAYSAY

Manila, April 16, 2003 (Star) -- Sen. Juan Flavier is willing to give way
to Sen. Ramon Magsaysay Jr. if he decides to run for president under the
pro-administration People Power Coalition (PPC).

"(Magsaysay) has a name, he has the ability and at least, from my own
perception, he is interested," he said. "You know, in some of your
positions, you ought to have fire in your belly for the position."

Flavier said he would consider the following factors before he decides to
run for president: His acceptance by the people through a survey, support
from his party, his financial potentials and his health.

Flavier is one of those being considered by the Lakas party to be its
standard- bearer in next year's presidential elections.

Flavier said he is excited to know the results of a survey on the
popularity ratings of presidential hopefuls.

"The survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations, which was concluded
in March, was finished already," he said. "The results of the SWS survey
will be released either during the Holy Week or after because that is the
dry days. There will be no news, no story and the survey will be the one to
be used."

Earlier, Magsaysay said he was seriously considering the call of his
colleagues in the PPC, including Lakas, for him to run as president under
the pro-administration coalition next year.

The PPC standard-bearer must be chosen not only for his winnability but
also for his track record, competence and many other factors, he added.
