P2-M LOST IN DARING NOONTIME MAKATI BANK ROB

Makati City, April 6, 2003 -- At least 30 fatigue-wearing heavily-armed men
stormed an Equitable-PCIBank branch at Jupiter and Paseo de Roxas in Makati
yesterday noon and got away with an estimated P2 million.

Supt. Jose Ramon Salido said the robbers arrived at around 12:30 p.m. in
four vehicles, a Ford Expedition, Toyota Revo, Starex van, and a Toyota
Corolla, escorted by four motorcycles.

The men disarmed three security guards and tried but failed to disable the
bank's surveillance camera.

Ten of the suspects rushed inside and took the money from tellers who were
sorting out bundles apparently delivered by four armored vans just before
the robbers arrived.

Salido said the operation only took a few minutes, indicating that it must
have been planned for weeks or even months.

He also said the robbers fired shots in the air as they headed southwards,
but their speeding vehicles alerted the neighboring establishments'
security guards, who opened fire at them. No one was hurt. (Malaya)
