MUNTINLUPA UNIVERSITY NOW A REALITY

Muntinlupa, March 25, 2003 -- After 10 years of deliberation at the halls
of the city council, the ordinance proposing the conversion of the city's
Muntinlupa Polytechnic College into the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa
was finally approved.

City Administrator Henry Reyes, also college administrator of the former
MPC, said the most important benefit the school's conversion can give is
the stability of the security of tenure of its employees who will now be
covered by the Civil Service Rules and Qualification Standards.

Reyes said the university will now enjoy a bigger autonomy from the
supervision of the Department of Education (DepEd) and Committee on Higher
Education (Ched).

Now a university, the school will now open more competitive courses aside
from its criminology, commerce, education, computer science and associate
in computer. Reyes said aside from offering new courses, they will most
likely add masteral degrees for post graduates.

One more significant change brought about by the conversion is the creation
of the board of trustees or regents composed of the city mayor as chairman,
vice mayor as vice chairman and members, namely, the chairman on committee
on education, representative from the DepEd Muntinlupa, Technical Education
and Skills Development Authority, Ched, faculty, student council,
non-government group, and private sector.

Reyes said with the school's conversion comes its ongoing renovation such
as the construction of additional classrooms, auditorium and library.
