ANOTHER IRAQI DIPLOMAT A SPY -- GMA

Manila, March 24, 2003 -- President Arroyo yesterday said the government is
taking action on an Iraqi embassy official on suspicion he is involved in
espionage.

In an interview at the Megamall, Arroyo said Foreign Affairs Secretary Blas
Ople is looking into the case, adding the move has nothing to do with the
call of the United States for its allies to cut ties with Iraq.

She said the government is not singling out Iraqi nationals.

"If there is evidence against other diplomats or employees, then we will
also take actions against them," she said.

She said the decision of the Philippines to join the "coalition of the
willing" does not mean that "we would be dictated on what actions or
decisions to take nor does it mean that we have turned our backs on the
United Nations." (By JOCELYN MONTEMAYOR, Malaya)
