DENNIS DA SILVA COULD FACE DEATH PENALTY

Manila, Feb. 27, 2003 -- Death by lethal injection could await former child star Dennis da Silva following a ruling by the state prosecutors yesterday to file multiple rape charges against him.

Chief State Prosecutor Jovencito Zuno told reporters Da Silva faces “the capital penalty” in case he gets convicted.

The star of the movie “Ninja Kids” in the 80s was charged with six counts of rape and violation of the law against child abuse (RA 7610) for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl, whose mother was allegedly his own live-in partner.

Marilyn Paz, mother of the victim who had initially blamed her daughter for the offense, was cleared of possible liability as an accessory.

The three had lived together at No. 20 Monte de Piedad St., Jestra Villa Subdivision, San Antonio Valley 5, Parañaque City.

State prosecutors Sebastian Caonong Jr. and Archimedes Manabat who handled the case noted Da Silva exercised a strong moral and physical control, noting he sent the victim cellphone text messages to court her.

“Da Silva's defense the act of sexual intercourse between him and complainant was free and voluntary because sweethearts, is unavailing and it cannot be said...that complainant, a minor 14 years of age, voluntarily consented to his sexual advances,” the prosecutors said.
