REBELS DENY KILLING KINTANAR
Manila, Jan. 24, 2003 (Malaya) - Former NPA chief Romulo Kintanar's long-time friend and comrade Nilo dela Cruz has denied the Alex Boncayao Brigrade (ABB) was behind the killing.
He pointed to the Maoist faction of the local communist insurgency as the possible brains behind the assassination
"We've been close for the past 30 years, so malabong ABB ang paghinalaan diyan," Dela Cruz, ABB chieftain, told Malaya in a telephone interview.
He said Kintanar has been in the NPA "order of battle" after he, along with other leaders, criticized CPP chief Jose Ma. Sison.
Dela Cruz said he had a phone conversation with Kintanar a day before he was killed.
"Kahit wala na siya sa movement, close kami ni Ka Rolly," he said.
Dela Cruz is the chief negotiator of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-ABB which has forged a peace agreement with the government after a series of negotiations that started during the Ramos administration and which was signed during the Estrada watch.(Malaya)
