3 DEAD, 40 MISSING AS BUS SINKS IN FLOOD
ROXAS, ISABELA, November
(BULLETIN) By Joe Dasig - Three people were killed and 40 others
were missing when a Dolbo passenger bus loaded with 60 passengers capsized
in a flashflood while trying to go through the temporary overflow bridge along
the Daang Maharlika at Siffu River in this province.
The bus was bound for Tuguegarao from Santiago City when, at around 5 p.m. Monday, the driver tried to cross the bridge hoping to get through despite the raging flood.
According to Brig. Gen. Rodolfo Alvarado, chief of the Philippine Army in the Cagayan Valley region, rescue teams from the 5th Infantry Division were dispatched to look for the missing persons and retrieve the capsized vehicle.
Cranes are being used by the military men to recover the ill fated bus under floodlights.
Mayor Benedict Calderon of Roxas town also sent additional Philippine National Police personnel to augment the forces of the Philippine Army already deployed in the area.
Only one among the three persons recovered dead has been identified by the police as of press time. He was Jerrymon Ortillarez of Tuguegarao.
