CONTROVERSIAL FILM HITS BOX OFFICE JACKPOT
Manila, Aug. 2, 2001 - A red-hot box-office sensation is born as Regal Entertainment's much-awaited "Red Diaries," starring new screen sex symbol Assunta de Rossi, hits the jackpot with over P8 million gross on its opening day!
"Red Diaries" opened on July 31, a day ahead of its intended release date due to the huge theater circuit clamor. Months prior to its gigantic release this week, requests for its early release have deluged the major local theater circuits.
The Maryo J. Delos Reyes movie goes down the books as having one of the biggest opening day grosses this year. Theater circuit watchers predict that the spectacular Assunta de Rossi launching movie might surpass previous box-office record holders as it continues to come up strong and would most likely go on an extended run.
"Red Diaries" portrays three different women, all of them played by Assunta de Rossi.
One is a kept woman whose love affairs with many men end up in a bizarre triangle of illicit romances. The second is a homecoming maiden who crosses paths with a naive teenage seminarian whose recurrent wet dreams have her as the central object. And the most controversial portion has a battered wife who ultimately learns to regain her self-esteem and hatches a scheme against her violent husband.
"Red Diaries" also stars Carlos Morales, Anton Bernardo, Dante Rivero and Pilar Pilapil. Newcomers Jam Melendez and Dante Gomez also join the cast. The film is currently being shown in Metro Manila.
