CAINTA, RIZAL'S PRIDE IN 'CONCERT AT THE PARKS'
Rizal Park, Manila, Feb. 4, 2001 - (MALAYA) OPENING "Concert at the Park's" February cultural is Cainta, Rizal's pride - the Los Trobadores Rondalla, under the music direction of Lino Mangandi. Joining the group tomorrow, Sunday, is the Cainta Cultural Dance Troupe, soprano Adrilyn Hernandez and baritone Mark Anthony Sorita. Alternating at the baton are Marcial de Jesus and Lino Mangandi. Ms. Susan Fernandez is program host.
The Cainta Los Trobadores Rondalla was formed by the late Mayor Francisco P. Felix in 1960. One of its first members was maestro Marcial de Jesus, who later became the conductor of the Cainta Elementary School Rondalla and with the help of Vice Governor Benjamin Felix formed the Los Trobadores Rondalla Jr. for the elementary students. In 1995, Mayor Nicanor Felix Memorial National High School, formed the Los Trobadores Rondalla Sr., with the students from the Francisco Felix Memorial National High School, formerly the Cainta Municipal High School, as members. The music instructors were Jet Hinanay and Lino Mangandi. Under the music direction of these two teachers, the Los Trobadores brought a succession of awards to the school, such as, the championship in the 1995 Regional Competition held in Sta. Cruz, Laguna, the 1995 Champion in the National Competition at Nayong Pilipino and third place in the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA).
The next year, 1996, the group topped the rondalla competitions in Batangas City and Sta. Cruz, Laguna, and placed second in the Regional Competition held in San Pedro, Laguna. The succeeding years brought new heights to the group, with their winning the second place in the Banduria, Octavina, Gitara, ATBP. competition from 1997 to 1999. They also placed third in the 1999 NAMCYA Regional Competitions held in Imus, Cavite. Last year, the group won the second place in the same category, which was held at the Nayong Pilipino.
For their program this Sunday, the Los Trobadores Rondalla has prepared the following repertoire: "Rizal Mabuhay" (de Leon), "Cainta Hymn" (Pablo), "Mulawin" (de Leon), "Kayamanan ng Lahi" (Buenaventura), "Pasadoble" (Imperio), "Tadhana" (Cadiz), "Maglalatik" (de Jesus), "Sa Libis ng Nayon" (de Jesus), "Neneng" (de Jesus), "Ilocano March" (de Jesus), "Blue Danube" (de Jesus), "Bakas ng Kahapon" (Imperio), "Maalaala Mo Kaya" (Gragera), "Kung Tayo'y Magtatanim" (de Jesus) and "Philippine Air March" (de Jesus).
"Concert at the Park" is a weekly cultural project of the National Parks Development Committee, under Executive Director Antonio S. Mercado, and the People's Television Network. It is aired nationwide over PTV-Channel 4 every Tuesday, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Directing for television is Villamor M. Paredes from a script by Gie O. Villasor. Executive in charge is Federico A. Edos.
Admission to the concert is free. The presentation starts promptly at 5:00 p.m. Venue is at the Rizal Open-Air Auditorium, Manila. The public is cordially invited.
