REGINE-ROBIN ALBUM TURNS PLATINUM
Quezon City, Oct. 3, 2000 - Regine Velasquez's latest album, the much-touted 'Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw' which is also the title of her and Robin Padilla's movie under Viva Films, turned platinum after only a month of its commercial release. And in recognition of the album's top performance, a Platinum Award was given to Regine on GMA-7's top-rating noontime show 'SOP' the other Sunday.
They say it is the first time in Philippine showbiz history that an OST (original soundtrack) to a movie gained immense popularity even before the film itself is shown.
“Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw” received a Gold Record Award just a week after its release and now that it was able to sell more than 40,000 copies, it will soon reach Double Platinum status because right now it is still on the No. 1 slot in the sales chart of almost every record bar in the country. The carrier single of the album, “Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw,” and also the theme song of the movie (that was written by Ogie Alcasid) is presently soaring the billboards of Manila’s hottest radio stations.
“Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw” the album was produced by Regine herself.
