ERAP POPULARITY UP IN SURVEY
Manila, Oct. 18, 2000 - President Estrada's net approval rating rose from 13 percent in July to 19 percent in the latest survey of the Social Weather Stations.
The survey, taken from Sept. 23 to Oct. 6, found that 49 percent of respondents were satisfied with the performance of Estrada, compared with 47 percent in July. Those dissatisfied dropped to 31 percent from 34 percent in July. The President's net rating improved in the urban areas, according to the survey, citing a significant increase in the Visayas and Mindanao.
"His rating in Visayas changed from negative to positive," the SWS said.
Malacañang welcomed the SWS figures, saying it was consistent with a Pulse Asia survey made public Sunday which showed 53 percent of the respondents in Metro Manila opposed to Estrada resigning following accusations by Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis "Chavit" Singson that he received jueteng money.
The Pulse Asia survey showed that 23 percent of those polled in Metro Manila believed Singson was credible, and only 11 percent believed the governor's word over that of the President.
In the SWS survey, the rating of Vice President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo slightly dipped from 68 percent to 63 percent. The national administration had a 42 percent satisfaction rating, the Senate 44 percent, the House 37 percent, and the Supreme Court 39 percent.
