NEWSFLASH
Baguio City, Aug. 15, 2000 - Casa Vallejo, Baguio’s oldest hotel, will resume operations after it was closed April this year due to labor disputes and management’s alleged serious financial losses.
As property manager, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources represented by Secretary Antonio Cerilles, is preparing for the lease of the two-story, green-hued rustic hotel building.
Cerilles noted during his inspection last May 31 that, rather than let it “rust in peace,” the hotel should continue operating because of its historic significance and the additional income it will give to the government.
Casa Vallejo, situated at the highest point of Session Road, had loyal clients who preferred wood panels and the ambience of the old Baguio, rather than newly built high-rise modern hotels. The hotel was also host to the regular weekly Kapihan of government and non-government officials, offering their home-blended native coffee, before it was transferred to the DENR.
