MATET’S SURGERY STARTS MALICIOUS RUMOR

Quezon City, May 27, 2000 - Matet de Leon has long been the target of bad publicity, but the latest gossip really hurt the young actress. The blind items which left no doubt about her identity spread the rumor that Matet was going though an ectopic pregnancy.

What really happened was this: she was confined at the Capitol Medical Center last week after doctor, Dr. Luna, discovered she had myoma, a growth in the ovary which caused Matet a lot of pain. The doctgor advised an operation, and she was admitted at the hospital.

It was at this point that some show business reporters discovered her hospital confinement, and hastily concluded without doing any research that her week-long stay in the hospital was due to an ectopic pregnancy.

At the Viva office a few days ago, some reporters were able to get the real score from Matet. She was candid about her past mistakes, and expressed resolve to change her ways.

"Inamin ko, nag-aduk-aduk ako, na naglaslas pa ako ng pulso; pero ito, hindi ko aaminin kasi hindi totoo. Nag-assume sila na kaya ako naospital kasi nagka-ectopic pregnancy ako dahil daw malandi ako. Hindi talaga ako nagsisinungaling at wala akong aaminin, dahil hindi naman totoo," said the young star.

Obviously, this latest issue on her is the most hurting. Of course, she had been rumored to be an alcoholic, a drug addict, an unprofessional actress. But the latest gossip about her alleged pregnancy was the worst, she said.

At her hospital bed, she realized how she had inflicted pain on her co-stars by making them wait for hours during tapings, inflicting pain on people around her by chain-smoking, inflicting pain by making taray to people she hates.

She admits she is sorry for what she had done in the past and promised to behave. She promised to herself she wouldn’t be late, she would be professional in all her dealings, and she would think better than unleash her scatting comment on issues about her.

"Nang nasa hospital ako, naisip ko, tama ba yong laging late ako? Tama ba yong nagtataray ako palagi, na may sinasabi akong hindi maganda sa mga interview? Tama ba yong nagi-smoke ako non-stop sa harap ng maraming tao? Sabi ko sa sarili ko, kailangan maging serious ako kasi sa showbiz, wala kang maitatago. Lahat masusulat. Kaya I promised myself na iiwasan ko na ang ma-late. Katulad ngayon, nauna ako sa inyo sa interview na ito. Iiwasan ko na rin na makasakit ng damdamin ng iba at babawas-bawasan ko na ang pagi-smoke. Hindi ko naman puwedeng tanggalin totally kaya babawas-bawasan ko na lang," she vowed.

Matet promised that from this point on, she would be serious about her profession.

"Iisipin ko na lahat ng gagawin ko sa showbiz, lahat mababalita, lahat masusulat. Kaya kailangan kong maging seryoso. Sa ngayon, alam ko nang malapit na akong ma-suspend sa H2K kasi palagi akong late. Tama ba yong paghintayin ko sila ng ilang oras? Tama ba yong ang call time ko 11 a.m. tapos dadating ako ng 6 p.m.? Palagay ko hindi tama, kaya magseseryoso na ako."
