DIGITAL CINEMA AT CINEMANILA INTERNATIONAL FILMFEST
Mandaluyong City, May 17, 2000 - Second Annual CineManila International Film Festival has joined the high-tech bandwagon. This year's ten-day event at the SM Megamall and Shangri-La Cinema from June 30 to July 9, 2000 will feature a special section on Digital Cinema.
The special feature will be produced in cooperation with 8arts.com, Asia's first digital film website based in Singapore and IndieKino, a webcinema portal based in Korea. This section caters to films first made in digital format.
CineManila believes that digital video is a promising tool for the Asian filmmaker. With most national cinemas in retreat across Asia, newer, faster, cheaper means of film production need to be embraced here if local cinema is to have a fighting chance.
Lectures and demonstrations about the convergence of digital video and the Internet will also be conducted by a panel of international film experts. CineManila will make available on-line many independent films - full-length, short and documentary - from different parts of the world, which will be featured in the festival.
Films vying for the festival's prestigious awards will be on the site and would be on-line for three months.
"Visitors will be able to access the films from computers which we will set up at the festival site," says Amable "Tikoy" Aguiluz VI, noted independent filmmaker and the festival's founder and director.
