IMELDA PAPIN REVIVING HER HIT SONG 'BAKIT'
Quezon City, April 26, 2000 - Jukebox Queen Ms. Imelda Papin is set to do a revival album and one of the songs to be featured is her hit song “Bakit.”
Penned by Jun Manalili, it actually became one of Mel’s signature songs. The composer believed then that it could only be Imelda Papin who could give justice to the song.
Mel recorded the song during her heyday as a recording artist and people had to line up in the record bars of Raon to buy the record.
“Bakit” will be the carrier song of the revival album which Mel will be recording very soon for Universal Records.
Ms. Papin, who’s an elected vice governor of her province in Bicol, will topbill a musical-ballroom dancing event slated tonight at the Coral Ballroom of the Holiday Inn Manila. Other performers include fellow Marcos Loyalist Anthony Castelo, Richard Merk, Donna Marquinez, Aileen Papin and Maffi Papin who’ll be displaying their tersichorean skills via some Latin numbers.
The fund-raising affair will benefit the Supplemental Milk Feeding Program of Vice Governor Papin for malnourished children in some depressed barangays around the country. Mel has launched her program in Camarines Sur with the help of the Australian government which donated powdered milk and some civic-minded individuals like Dr. James G. Dy, head of the Philippine-Chinese General Chamber of Commerce.
