DONNA CRUZ RETURNS TO SINGING, NIXES MOVIES
Quezon City, April 15, 2000 - Sharon Cuneta is no longer the only “Slim Queen Returning from Fat Farm,” a title now bestowed upon happily-married and new mother Donna Cruz.
After almost a year of absence to have a baby and adjust to married life in Cebu City, Donna Cruz is back in showbiz, thinner and prettier than the day she married Dr. Yong Larrazabal.
In Manila to prommote “Hulog ng Langit” produced by Viva Records, Donna sang for the movie press the John Denver classic “For Baby” from her new album, a song she used to sing when daughter Belle was still inside her tummy. The baby was named after the character in Beauty and the Beast.
“When I sing it now, parang napapakanta rin si Belle kabisado na niya 'yung song," the proud Mom says.
Donna's better-than-single figure came about after a rigorous diet and workout regimen, which drastically reduced her weight by 56 pounds in three months.
Donna weighed 180 lbs. while pregnant, and was still a plump 160 lbs. after giving birth to Isabella Adriana last October. She is now a whistle-bait 106 lbs, after three monthsof taking only 500 calories everyday. The Spartan routine was: no breakfast, lunch of one boiled potato downed with unsweetened juice, a late-afternoon snack of a small piece of cantaloupe and a dinner of a small of carrots and unsweetened juice. To ease hermidnight hunger pangs, Donna would eat three pieces of diet crackers.
"But she takes vitamins," assured Yong. "Vigoris (a multi-vitamin) and Lecit-E."
Donna and Yong don't plan to have another baby in the next three years to allow her some time for her singing career. The movies will have to wait.
"Maybe when Belle is already a little bigger," said Yong.
