Manila, April 14, 2000 - Pinoy viewers of MTV are in for a treat as MTV Southeast Asia announces the nominees for the MTV Philippine Video Music Awards (PVMA) 2000! These nominees were gathered as a result of a tight screening held recently composed of a panel of entertainment industry insiders to determine the best videos of each category.
The nominees are: For Best Female: Viktoria’s Pwede Ba?, Jaya’s Honesty, Regine Velasquez’s For the Love of You, and Lea Salonga’s I Remember the Boy.
For the Best Male Category, Gary Valenciano’s More and More, Janno Gibbs’ Ikaw Lamang and Ogie Alcasid’s Kung Mawawala Ka are vying for the trophy.
Freestyle with So Slow, Barbie’s Cradle with The Dance, 7 Shots of Wisdom with Who’s Got the Funk and Session Road with Alone are contending for the Best New Artist title while Wolfgang’s Atomica, Kulay’s Ask For More, Parokya ni Edgar’s Picha Pie and True Faith’s (Awit Para) Sa Kanya are up for the Best Group Award.
Says Janet Eng, MTV Southeast Asia marketing and communications director: “The list of nominees are an electric mix of the more established Pinoy musical artists and the new ones. It should be an interesting match. This is our way to spotlight Philippine talent and recognize the best to encourage the industry to come up with more and more noteworthy music videos.”
MTV fans can vote for their favorite video in each category by going online through www.mtvasia.com or by filing up a ballot slip either at Tower Records, Odyssey, Music One or Radio City. They can also send in a postcard with their name, age, address and telephone number to PO Box 1696, Makati Central Post Office, 1256 Makati City. If all of their four choices turn out to be winners, these lucky entry senders will win a bunch of MTV goodies! For more information, fans should keep tuning in on MTV.
Sponsored by Sanyo, Siemens, and Soundbuzz.com, the MTV PVMA is an annual event organized by MTV Southeast Asia to give recognition to Filipino talent in music videomaking. For this year, the awards night will be on June 10 at the Philam Life Theater. A glittering roster of presenters and performers is slated to grace this occasion. It is also in this event that the Best Video of the Year will be announced and the winner will be the Philippines’ official entry to the MTV Southeast Asia
Viewer’s Choice Award. It should be noted that the Philippines has already won twice with the Eraserhead’s Huling El Bimbo and Parokya ni Edgar’s Harana.
