ROBIN PLAYS WACKO KILLER IN HORROR SERIES
Quezon City, April 12, 2000 - Action superstar Robin Padilla, now involved in maintaining peace and order with Muslim rebels in Mindanao, is also in the midst of taking bold steps in his acting career.
Saying he’s tired of his stereotype roles in the movies and on TV, Robin agreed to play an offbeat character in Erik Matti’s suspense-thriller TV series tentatively-titled "Kagat ng Dilim" where Robin launches the pilot episode.
Robin is a wacko in the series who massacres his own family. His character is one that is a challenge by itself as he is presented as a silent husband to Sharmaine Suarez who in one split change of persona, went on a killing spree.
"It’s very challenging kasi hindi ko pa nagawa ito sa television. Maganda ang development ng character, may laman," says Robin evidently thrilled by the role.
Likewise, Robin also welcomes the idea of working with young directors like Erik Matti. "Magaling siyang katrabaho, very aggressive. At saka hindi kami nagkakalayo ng ideas."
This is not the first time for Robin to appear in a horror TV series but he says that this one is different.
"Masarap na mahirap gumawa ng horror. Masarap kasi ibang genre pero mahirap dahil sa prosthetics."
The Robin Padilla of today shows sense and maturity. He speaks with conviction and articulates his ideas in a way that he will not step on toes.
On his real-life role as mediator between government and the MILF, he says: "Nasasaktan ako na marinig ng nalalagay sa alanganin ang mga kapwa ko Muslim. Masakit sa akin yon kaya kung may maitutulong ako, gagawin ko."
“Kagat ng Dilim” is one of the new shows to be aired by the Viva-Vintage combine over IBC13.
