NORA AUNOR'S DAUGHTER MATET BACK ON TV, ADMITS PAST MISDEEDS
Quezon City, April 11, 2000 - Matet de Leon, Nora Aunor’s adopted daughter, is now 16 and starring in a new TV show.
Hati-hating Kapatid, produced by Viva Television, and to be aired on IBC-13, also stars Rica Peralejo, Dingdong Dantes, Bojo Molina, Anne Curtis, Chubi del Rosario, and Melissa “Mumay” Santiago.
In a talk with entertainment writers recently, she admitted to having been a rebellious teener. Her older sister, Lotlot de Leon (who’s also an adopted child of Nora), finally decided to send her to a convent to discipline her.
"Marami naman kaming andu’n, at para lang din kaming nag-aaral du’n. Tinuruan kaming magdasal at tumibay ang paniniwala sa Diyos. Palaging may lectures tungkol sa pagiging mabuting Kristiyano," recalled Matet.
Matet bears some scars in one of her wrists, but she would not want to discuss what caused them. There were rumors before that she attempted suicide by slashing her wrist.
She recalled her most memorable moments with her mom, when they all went to the Fiesta Carnival in Cubao many years ago and took as many rides as they could before the place closed for the night.
Asked about reports that she was into drugs and alcohol and why Lotlot had to intervene and send her to a convent, Matet was sad but candid.
"Exaggerated naman lahat yung mga naglabasan na addict na raw ako at lasengga. It’s true that I drink beer when I attend parties, or when I go to the disco with some friends. I think it’s normal for teeners now to drink kapag nasa party sila o nasa disco. Sobra talaga yung mga isinulat tungkol sa buhay ko," she answered.
Matet is being managed by Angge, the famous talent coordinator. And she already knows she is adopted. "I have no plans to look for my biological parents. I am happy with the parents I grew up with," she intoned in answer to the question about her biological parents. She said she has her mom’s blessing to go back to showbiz.
Matet was in high school at OB Montessori in Greenhills when she had to stop because Lotlot got her committed to that convent for about eight months. She said she would resume her studies, if not at OB, then through the DECS special school for working youth.
Hati-hating Kapatid will premiere sometime this month on IBC-13.
