ABU SAYYAF PLANS MOVIE STARRING ROBIN AS SLAIN CHIEF
Basilan Island, April 6, 2000 There’s more to the Abu Sayyaf rebel group’s insistence to have actor Robin Padilla as negotiator for the release of some 33 hostages being held hostage by extremist Muslim guerillas.
Basilan provincial spokesman Hader Glang quotes an unidentified Abu Sayyaf double agent as saying that the group’s insistence to have Padilla as negotiator is connected witht heir plan to make a movie on their struggle against the government of the Republic of the Philippines.
The deep penetration agent told Glang the rebel group wants Padilla to play the role of Libyan-trained Abu Sayyaf chieftain Abubakar Abdujarak Janjalani who was killed during a police raid in 1998.
The planned film could earn for the Abu Sayyaf millions of pesos in movie rights fees and royalties.
As of press time, no denial nor confirmation has been issued by the Abu Sayyaf on Glang’s disclosures.
