STARMAKER HAS BIG PLANS FOR JANNA VICTORIA
Quezon City, April 3, 2000 - "Lagarista," the unassuming little movie that could be the Philippines’ answer to Cinema Paradiso, was scheduled to be shown last December yet, but Crown Seven postponed its playdate to June. Its leading lady, newcomer Janna Victoria, had to drop out of sight and await the official launching of the movie.
Janna first received notice as the model in a PLDT commercial with Pyke Montevero and was immediately signed to a five-picture contract by Crown Seven boss and presidential brother Jesse Ejercito.
The low-profile brother of the movie-star President was responsible for the stardom of Alma Moreno, Lorna Tolentino, Elizabeth Oropesa and Amy Austria. He must be planning something really special for Janna, who was a BS Tourism sophomore at Centro Escolar University before Crown Seven discovered her.
In "Lagarista," Janna plays a prostitute aspiring to be a Japayuki, opposite Piolo Pascual’s title character, a bicycle rider who courriers movie reels from one theater to another.
Even before "Lagarista" hits the screens, Janna will be neck-deep in work on her follow-up film, the intriguingly titled Ang Huling Birhen sa Balat ng Lupa. She will star with Christopher de Leon and another Crown Seven contract star, Glydel Mercado, who is in the midst of reaping best supporting actress honors for her breakthrough role in Sidhi.
Ang Huling Birhen starts grinding this month. At the head of the team is the director of Sidhi, Joel Lamangan.
