LEYTE GOVERNOR LEADS SUMMER-LONG WARAY-WARAY FESTIVAL
Tacloban City, April 8, 2000 -Leyte Rep. Alfred Romualdez and his wife Cristina Gonzales spearhead the Waray Waray Festival in the province which will kick off today, April 8, with a free concert at the RTL Plaza by the country’s most popular rock band Parokya ni Edgar. The concert starts at 6 p.m.
The couple said they chose this band particularly because most of the graduates in the province have requested for them to see the band in person. As a graduation gift, the Romualdezs have given into the request of the youth in Tacloban.
For sure, their fans will have a grand time listening to the band’s popular songs from their latest album "Gulong, Itlog Gulong."
The festival will run until the succeeding months of May, June and July and possibly also in December.
A beauty contest called Mutya ng Pilipinas (Eastern Visayas) will also take place during the celebration. The winner in this regional pageant will be the province’s representative in the nationwide Mutya ng Pilipinas search.
A fun Millennium Matron Contest 2000, Waray Rap Contest, Pinoy Extremes like tricycle race, sagwan race, obstacle course, ballroom dancing, battle of the bands, drum and bugle corp, and other activities will keep residents and visitors alike dancing and having fun all throughout the summer.
Cong. Romualdez will also also launch charitable activities like Operation Tuli, Dental Missions, Scholarships, and the awarding of the Most Beautiful Barangay.
