MARK ANTHONY BACK IN MOVIES, RUDY FERNANDEZ BACK TO SCHOOL
Quezon City, Feb. 29, 2000 - Rudy Fernandez, one of the Philippines’ top action movie stars, rarely opens up to members of media, particularly on issues concerning his personal life and members of his family.
Very recently, however, a few entertainment journalists were able to have an intimate shat with Rudy, and he discussed candidly the trek back to show business of Mark Anthony, his troubled teen-age son by actress Alma Moreno (now First Lady of Paranaque City and wife of Mayor Joey Marquez).
“Mark Anthony is doing well. He’s now being managed by Dondon Monteverde and I’m letting him take care of everything that has to do with the boy’s career. Dondon (who’s a son of Regal Films producer “Mother” Lily) calls the shots completely,” he disclosed. “He and Mark are now studying a number of film offers and I leave it up to Dondon to decide what to accept.”
Rudy maintains that he had never been remiss in giving Mark advice during his troubled times, and is even more attentive to his son now that Mark’s making a film comeback.
“I told him he should be more focused on his career than on his love life or whatever else. He should not let this opportunity pass, this second chance being given him to have another crack at stardom. If he lets this chance pass, there might no longer be a third chance. He might have a harder time. The public and the producers might turn their attention on someone else or something else. For now, I think Mark still has a chance to make it anew,” assessed the father.
With the local election is still a good 15 months away, Rudy, is preparing himself for the job of Mayor of Quezon City, a post he has been eyeing for several years now.
He has attended several seminars on public administration and as soon as his schedule permits, he plans to go back to Ateneo to take up more seminars on public governance. He has also been consulting with people in the barangays, people from various NGOs, as well as barangay officials to get him attuned to the rudiments of dealing with people and governance.
Despite all these preparations, Rudy insists nothing is really final yet as far as his running for QC mayor is concerned. If and when it happens, though, Rudy wants to be fit for the job.
