SANDRA GOMEZ HOLLYWOOD-BOUND FOR ‘DOOMSDAYER’ PREEM

Quezon City, Feb. 20, 2000 - Sandra Gomez is leaving her ‘Lumen’ character far behind this week as she heads for Los Angeles aboard a Philippine Airlines 747 at the invitation of film producer Michael Sellers. As co-star of Doomsdayer, ABS-CBN Entertainment’s latest action movie produced by Sellers, Sandra will join American Tarzan hunk Joe Lara to introduce the movie to some 7,000 top movie industry professionals from more than 70 countries.

At the American Film Market, AFM (February 20-March1) Doomsdayer, which finished principle photography at Subic Bay Freeport in January, is the debut feature film for its director, Michael John Sarna. It is produced by Michael Sellers from a screenplay by British writer Bob Couttie.

Sandra is delighted to be going to the heart of movieland: "Any actress would be thrilled at the opportunity, especially with a film like Doomsdayer. In a way I’ll be representing the Philippine movie industry, too, because Doomsdayer was made here, and I’m very proud of that."

Says Sellers: "We’re delighted to be introducing Sandra to the international film community. She has been getting attention for her performance even before the movie has been shown. AFM is extremely important. It is responsible for 16 billion pesos worth of film distribution deals every year, so anyone who wants a place in the international film market has to be there. It isn’t a festival, it’s a meeting of professionals who decide what goes on to the world’s cinema, video and television screens, it’s a great opportunity for Sandra."

Michael John Sarna adds: "There’s been a lot of interest in Doomsdayer and Sandra all over Hollywood. This will be the first time they get a chance to actually see it. They’re going to be in for a lot of surprises."

Doomsdayer follows the lead of Goodbye America and Legacy, also produced by Sellers. It is also slated to show at the Cannes and Milan international film markets later in the year. Doomsdayer stars Joe Lara as Jack Logan, a mission specialist in a covert multinational agency, Protocol 23, whose job is to recover weapons of mass destruction nuclear, biological and chemical and stop them falling into the wrong hands.

After an operation goes wrong in the former Soviet Union, Logan is given a new mission by the head of Protocol 23, Valentin Daly (Paige Rowland) to down the source of a new and frighteningly powerful experimental explosive before it gets into terrorist hands.

He finds himself in a race against time to stop ruthless weapons billionaire Maximillian Gast (Udo Kier) and his deadly wife, Elizabeth (Brigitte Nielsen) setting off a global holocaust from their private tropical island of San Moreno to destroy a world gone mad with a device called the Doomsdayer.

Not only must Logan tackle the Gast’s murderous butler, Montgomery (TJ Storm) and Russian nuclear weapons expert cum gangster Viktor Dorestoy (Ravil Issyanov), he must face the darkness of his own past through the eyes of former lover, Dyna Castenada (Sandra Gomez). Dyna is now married to an old friend of Logan’s, Emilio Castenada, a flamboyant creator of killing gadgetry. When Emilio’s car explodes, Dyna sets off on a path of revenge that puts Logan’s own mission in danger.
