NEWSFLASH
NO WATER IN MOST OF MANILA FOR FOUR DAYS
Manila, Feb. 27, 2000 - Large areas of Manila, including Malacanang Palace and the entire districts of Sta. Cruz, Quiapo, Sampaloc, Pandacan, and San Miguel, will be waterless for four days and 16 hours starting at 8:00 a.m. today up to 11:59 p.m. on Thursday.
Maynilad Water, the private concessionaire operating in the West Zone of the former service area of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), said the water service interruption is due to the relocation of the 1,350-mm diameter mainline along Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard.
To allow for the relocation, a valve will be inserted at the existing 1,050-mm diameter mainline across the San Juan Bridge to regulate the flow of water in the affected distribution network.
For the duration of the water cut-off, Maynilad will be serving residents of the affected areas with mobile and stationary water tankers on a 24-hour basis.
The areas affected are the whole of Sta. Cruz and Quiapo; the whole of San Miguel including Malacañang Palace; the whole of Sampaloc, Pandacan and Paco; Bacood, Guadacanal/Old Sta. Mesa, Reposo and V. Mapa streets in Sta. Mesa.
The following areas will experience from low water pressure to no water: the whole of Binondo except Juan Luna street; San Nicolas area except Del Pan street; Ermita; portions of San Andres, Manila; and Araneta Village and Barangay Doña Imelda in Quezon City.
To provide temporary water service for the affected consumers, Maynilad Water is assigning six mobile water tankers to several areas which will make deliveries on a 24-hour basis.
