'BURLESK KING' AT BERLIN FILMFEST
Quezon City, Jan. 30, 2000 - Seiko producer Robbie Tan is beaming with pride as his film ''Burlesk King'' has been picked to open the Panorama section of the 50th Berlin International Film Festival on Feb. 9.
''Burlesk King'' had been shown in Toronto and competed last October at the 35th Chicago International Film Festival, where it was picked up for world-wide distribution.
Directed by Mel Chionglo, written by Ricky Lee, and starring Rodel Velayo, "Burlesk King" captures Manila's flashy nightlife and its grim economic and political realitites.
Two other local films are showing in Berlin: Joey Reyes' "Toro" ("Live Show") and Lav Diaz's "Hubad sa Ilalim ng Buwan" ("Naked Under the Moon"), both produced by Regal's Mother Lily Monteverde. "Toro" will also be shown at Panorama, while "Hubad" is at the Forum category.
"Burlesk King" also stars Leonardo Litton as another macho dancer; Nini Jacinto as love interest; and Elizabeth Oropesa as Rodel's mother.
