IMELDA PAPIN TO WED FORMER CONGRESSMAN
Manila, Jan. 25, 2000 Former “Jukebox Queen” Imelda Papin, now vice governor of a province in Bicol, is marching down the aisle again this year.
The groom is former Bukidnon Congressman Al Lopez, who has been Mel’s beau for several years.
Mel and fellow Bicolana Nora Aunor have been the objects of intrigue lately, with some quarters hinting that the two singers could become political rivals for the same elective position.
Vice Governor Papin explained that such would not be the case because her next political campaign would be for a seat in the House of Representatives.
“Iyon talaga ang plano ko. Mas mapagbubuti ko ang pagiging public servant ko kung magko-concentrate ako sa district na kinasasakupan ko, (That’s been my plan all along, because I could be a better public servant by concentrating on serving my own district)" she explained.
Balancing her government position and her career has meant a very hectic schedule: Monday to Wednesday, she is in Bicol. The rest of the week, she’s in Manila.
Her “Isang Linggong Pag-Ibig” continues to be a big hit in jukeboxes and radio stations nationwide.
