UP FILM CENTER SCREENS RP OSCAR ENTRY
Diliman, QC, Jan. 15, 2000 - The Film Center of the University of the Philippines ushers in the new millennium with Gil Portes' “Saranggola (The Kite)” the country's official entry to the Best Foreign-Language Film Category for the forthcoming 72nd ''Annual Academy Awards'' more popularly known as Oscars.
The special exhibition slated on Jan. 17 at 3 and 6 p.m. launches UP Film Center’s screening series featuring a selection of outstanding productions that showcase the local motion picture industry’s quest for international recognition.
Maryo delos Reyes’ “Sa Paraiso ni Efren” which garnered the “B” rating from the Film Ratings Board will be shown on Jan. 19 at 4 and 7 p.m.
“Lucia,” Mel Chionglo’s acclaimed drama produced by British Broadcasting Corporation in 1992, will be presented on Jan. 25 at 3 and 6 p.m.
“Laro sa Baga,” the latest work from Chito Roño who recently won the Best Director plum at the “Brussels International Festival for Independent Films,” will have its world premiere on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m.
Finally, Carlos Siguion Reyna’s “Azucena” ends the film series on Jan. 27 at 6 p.m.
All screenings will be held at the UP Film Center Cinema-Theater located at Magsaysay Avenue, UP Diliman Campus, Quezon City. The 35 mm print and director’s cut of the respective films will be screened.
