REMOTE PANGASINAN BARRIO GETS FIRST LADY’S MEDICAL MISSION
Sison, Pangasinan, Jan. 12, 2000 First Lady Dr. Luisa ''Loi'' Estrada conducted Monday her first medical mission in the new millennium in barangay Bulaoen West, treating some 1,000 patients.
Dr. Loi arrived Monday morning from her monthly pilgrimage to Manaoag and personally attended to some patients with rare congenital ailments.
The medical and dental mission was based at the compound of Bulaoen West Elementary School.
Patients with special cases were referred by the First Lady to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) and to the Regional Medical Center in Dagupan City.
Program Director Nanet Tanyag said 25 volunteer doctors from the PGH were assisted by a local private medical practitioner and the municipal health officer.
Patients were provided with free medicine donated by MARE (Masa and Riwasa ni Erap) Association, which the First Lady chairs.
The Barangay is six kilometers from the national highway. Mrs. Estrada is the first First Lady to have personally visited the area, local residents said.
