WORLD’S TOP REFEREES AT ASIAN WOMEN’S FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Bacolod City, Oct. 26, 1999 - Nineteen top international female referees, including Women’s World Cup veterans, will officiate in the 12th Asian Women’s Football Championship which start Nov. 7 in Bacolod and Iloilo.
The Asian Football Confederation has picked 10 head referees and nine assistant referees from six countries to oversee the players' on-field conduct and ensure the games run smoothly during the two-week competition organized by the Philippine Football Federation.
The referees are Lu Yinh, Sun Yuzhen, Zhang Donggiang and Zuo Xiodi of China, Ri Hong-sil and Yang Mi-sun of North Korea, Utsumi Kaori and Yayoi Watanabe of Japan, Im Eun-ju of South Korea and Kari Seitz of the United States.
The assistant referees are Fu Hongjue, Lu Lijuan and Zhu Yu Hong of China, Yashikawa Hizae of Japan, Park Yong-sun and Ri Song-ok of North Korea, Choi Soo-jin of South Korea, Sharma Kalmana of Nepal and Raquel Silva of the Philippines.
Overseeing the referees will be a tournament committee composed of Hong Kong's Veronica Chan, chairperson; China's Zhou Jinfu, ChineseTaipei's Kao Hong, Uzbekistan's Muminov Alisher and India's A.R. Khaleel.
"We can expect high caliber and fair officiating with these referees named by the AFC. Some of them officiates in the last Women's World Cup in the United States," said PFF Referees' Committee head and director for referees, Jimmy Somogod yesterday.
