LUXURY CRUISE INDUSTRY WORKSHOP IN MANILA
Manila, Sept. 22, 1999 - The international cruise industry is expected, in the next five years, to need at least 168, crewmembers to man the world's cruise vessels. In preparation for this, there will be a "Manning and Training in the Cruise Industry" workshop on Nov. 5 at the Westin Philippine Plaza Hotel.
Also to be discussed at the cruise industry workshop are: employment opportunities in the cruise industry, and cruise lines perceptions of Asia's manning agencies.
The workshop will be led by Jurgen Scharkosi, chief executive of the Maritime Leisure Group which founded the Maritime Hotel Academy, the world's first training institute for the cruise industry.
The workshop is actually a post-conference activity of the 3rd Lloyds Ship Manager (LSM) Asia-Pacific Manning and Training Conference which will be held in Manila from Nov. 2-4.
The bi-annual conference follows the highly successful 2nd LSM Philippine Manning and Training Conference, which attracted over 300 delegates from some 30countries in April of 1997.
The conference is backed by leading maritime international organizations such as the International Shipping Federation (ISF), Nautical Institute, the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) and in the Philippines by the Filipino Association of Mariners Employment.
Leading the list of outstanding resource speakers is Andrew Winbow, head of the International Maritime Organization (IMO)'s Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) and Human Element Section. On the Philippine side, Maritime Industry Authority Administrator Agustin Bengzon will give insights on how far the Philippines has gone in achieving STCW compliance.
Inquiries and registration should be addressed to Jennifer Mountford at LLP Maritime Conferences and Exhibitions.
